Raising Awareness

The Organ Donor Awareness Foundation was created in 1986 when local clerks realized the urgent need for life-saving organ and tissue donors. Clerk staff across Tennessee help save lives every day when they ask their patrons to donate a dollar to organ donor awareness. Their work has collected over $10 million in the past 25 years, desperately needed monies that fund public awareness campaigns throughout the state.

The Tennessee county clerks give you the option to donate to the Tennessee Organ Donor Awareness Fund when you title, register, or renew your automobile. Your $1 donation helps the foundation better educate the public about donor options.

• 1,937 Tennesseans were on the waiting list as of November 10, 2006.
• 100,525 people in the United States were on the waiting list as of November 10, 2006.
• 18 people die every day waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.
• 25,459 organ transplants were performed in the United States in 2003.
• 606 patients were given transplants in Tennessee in 2002.
