Job Overview:
The Children's Librarian/Teen Coordinator is a full-time position (40 hours per week) at the Somerville Fayette County Library, located at 216 W. Market Street, Somerville, TN. This role is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering library services and programs for children and teens, in accordance with the library's policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead weekly story times for children.
- Develop and execute educational programs for children and youth of all ages.
- Organize and manage the library's Summer Reading Program.
- Engage with local schools and childcare centers for outreach initiatives. Facilitate the library's 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program.
- Assist with the selection and acquisition of children's and youth-related materials.
- Develop and recommend policies and procedures for the library's youth services. Create training materials for in-house use as needed.
- Compile statistics and reports for the department as required.
- Provide cross-training and help at the circulation desk as necessary.
- Ensure adherence to library policies and procedures.
- Participate in professional development through workshops and training. Perform general circulation duties.
- Assist in managing the library's social media presence.
- Handle phone inquiries as needed.
- Participate in regional youth services programs.
- Plan and lead homeschool programs, including STEM and Lego activities.
- Supervise and coordinate the Teen Advisory Board.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong customer service skills with a professional and courteous approach.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, Canva, and internet research.
- Familiarity with children's and young adult literature, including current authors and trends.
- Ability to learn and apply professional library principles and practices.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize effectively.
- Capable of operating basic office equipment.
- Open to constructive criticism and feedback.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic math skills (including handling money and making change).
Education, Experience, and Training:
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in children's services-related field.
- Preferred: Master of Library Information and Science.
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Highly preferred: Experience working with youth of all ages. Library experience is highly desired.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Physical:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting books and other library materials up to 45 lbs.
- Regular use of computer keyboards requiring hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity. Ability to stay focused with regular interruptions.
- Tolerance for the minimal noise associated with children's activities.
- Ability to handle odors from people, materials, and the library environment.
- Comfortable working in varying temperature conditions.
Mental:
- Must be flexible, creative, and patient.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

Starting Pay: $60,000-$65,000 DOE

Position Summary:
The Deputy Chief of Operations serves as the second-in-command of the Fayette County Fire Department, providing high-level executive leadership, operational oversight, and administrative support to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of emergency services across a large and complex jurisdiction. Under the general direction of the Fire Chief, the Deputy Chief of Operations plays a pivotal role in managing daily operations, supervising personnel, developing department-wide strategies, and coordinating major incidents.
Fayette County Fire Department operates 10 fire stations, maintains over 52 pieces of emergency apparatus, and provides fire protection, EMS, rescue, and disaster response across 704 square miles. The department currently includes 6 career personnel and more than 125 active volunteers. This position carries substantial authority and responsibility, requiring deep knowledge of fire and EMS operations, personnel management, public administration, and community engagement.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Operational Command & Oversight
- Provides direct oversight of daily fire, rescue, and EMS operations across all 10 stations.
- Responds to major alarms, assumes incident command as necessary, and ensures adherence to ICS/NIMS protocols.
- Supervises Command staff, District Chiefs, and all officers within the 10 Districts; and ensures staffing and readiness of all apparatus (52+ units).
- Monitor and evaluate vehicle utilization metrics, fuel consumption, and repair trends to make informed decisions on replacement cycles and equipment upgrades.
- Oversee specification development and procurement processes for new vehicles, coordinating directly with manufacturers and vendors to ensure functionality and reliability.
Leadership & Personnel Management
- Coordinates with the Volunteer District Chief or Captain, to support and integrate over 125 volunteers.
- Participates in hiring, promotions, performance evaluations, corrective action, and workforce planning.
- Leads training, safety, and professional development initiatives to support readiness and compliance.
Strategic & Administrative Responsibilities
- Works with the Fire Chief to develop and implement department goals, policies, and operational improvements.
- Assists in preparation and management of the department’s budget, capital improvement planning, and resource allocation.
- Reviews incident data, response metrics, and operational efficiency reports to guide decision-making.
Public & Interagency Coordination
- Represents the department in intergovernmental meetings, mutual aid coordination, regional task forces, and public events.
- Collaborates with emergency management, law enforcement, county administration, and community organizations.
- Engages in public education, fire prevention programs, and disaster preparedness outreach.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates degree required in Fire Science, Public Administration, Emergency Services Management, or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in fire service, 10 years minimum at a career dept., with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Must have Volunteer Firefighter documented leadership experience.
- State certifications: IFSAC Firefighter II or the TN Commission on Firefighting Firefighter III, Fire Officer I (Fire Officer II, III or IV preferred), Fire Instructor, EMT or higher.
- Completion of ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet departmental driving standards.
- A combination of education and experience can be considered by the Fire Chief, if some minimum qualifications are not met.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing a combination career/volunteer department.
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, accreditation, or ISO rating improvement.
- Experience with grant writing, capital projects, and multi-agency operations.
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA standards, OSHA regulations, and state fire codes.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proven leadership in high-volume emergency service environments.
- Advanced knowledge of incident management, EMS systems, fire prevention, and training methods.
- Skilled in labor relations, personnel administration, and conflict resolution.
- Strong communicator with the ability to influence across all levels of government and community stakeholders.

Working Conditions:
- Work is divided between office administration and emergency field response.
- Subject to emergency call-back, extended shifts, and 24/7 availability.

- Responding to instructions from a dispatcher and driving and operating specially equipped emergency vehicles to specified locations at a safe and controlled speed, in accordance with federal, state, local law, regulations and standards;

- Coordinating requests for non-emergency transports in accordance with the non-emergency transport policies;

- Maintaining apparatus and equipment.
- Checking, restocking, inventorying and cleaning any apparatus operated by Fayette County Ambulance Service;
- Cleaning, doing dishes, emptying trash and other related duties in the EMS station;
- Representing the ambulance service while on duty at public service functions, expositions, and other public events;
- Providing ambulance stand-by services at sporting events or any other activities designated by the ambulance Assistant Director; and
- Performing any other duty related to Fayette County Ambulance Service as designated by the ambulance service management.
- Be a team player, as EMS is a team effort, and providers must provide necessary assistance to ensure system sanitation, readiness and adherence to quality assurance standards;
- Be flexible, as emergency services operate on a 24-hour clock; the incumbent’s assigned work shift schedule may vary and the incumbent should be available to respond immediately for a call during the assigned work period, and the start and shift times may vary due to the nature of the business;
